We meet you at Bole International and transfer to your hotel. Addis sits at 2,350 m, so the first evening is deliberately easy — a short orientation and an early night before the flight north.

The whole day at Lalibela: eleven churches carved downward into solid volcanic rock in the 12th century, still in daily use by white-robed priests and pilgrims. You walk the tunnels and trenches that link them and finish at Bete Giyorgis, the cross-shaped church cut 15 m into the ground — the single most extraordinary building in Africa.

Climb to Asheton Maryam, a monastery cut into the cliff at 3,150 m above Lalibela — on foot or by mule. The views over the Lasta mountains are immense, and the monks will show you illuminated goatskin manuscripts kept here for centuries.
