Addis Ababa » Lake Langano

Drop out of the highlands into the Great Rift Valley and down to Lake Langano — one of the few Ethiopian lakes safe for swimming, ringed by acacia and full of birdlife.

Day 3 :
Lake Langano » Chencha » Arba Minch

Climb to Chencha and the Dorze villages, where houses are woven from bamboo in the shape of an elephant's head and the weaving is the best in the country. Down to Arba Minch and the viewpoint over the twin lakes Abaya and Chamo.

Day 4 :
Arba Minch » Konso » Jinka

To Konso, a UNESCO site of fortified hilltop villages, dry-stone walls and terraced fields worked for four hundred years. Continue into the Omo Valley to Jinka.

Jinka » Mago National Park » Turmi

Into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi, the most striking of the Omo peoples, the women wearing clay lip plates and elaborate scarification. Continue south to Turmi, in the heart of Hamer country.

Day 6 :
Murulle & Nyangatom

A day among the Karo at Murulle — the finest body painters on the river, working in white chalk and ochre above the Omo — and across to the Nyangatom, one of the most remote and least visited groups in the valley.

Omorate city tour » Dassanech

Cross the Omo River by dugout to the Dassanech, who live on the delta near the Kenyan border and build with whatever the river brings them. Return to Turmi for the evening.

Turmi » Arba Minch

Drive back north through Hamer country with time at a village market. If a bull-jumping ceremony is running while you are here, we will take you. Overnight Arba Minch.

Arba Minch » Departure from Addis

Boat on Lake Chamo among the crocodiles and hippos of the Crocodile Market if time allows, then fly to Addis for your onward connection. Transfer to the airport. End of our services.
