This Safety Disclaimer provides important information about the risks associated with travel to frontier, adventure, and politically complex destinations. It supplements and forms part of the Booking Conditions & Trip Agreement. In the event of any inconsistency, the Booking Conditions & Trip Agreement prevails.
Important: Travel to some destinations operated by RJ Travel involves serious, elevated, unusual, and potentially life-threatening risks. By booking with RJ Travel, you acknowledge that you have had the opportunity to review the Booking Conditions & Trip Agreement, including the risk disclosures and assumption-of-risk provisions. This list is not exhaustive.
Nature of the Risks
Armed Conflict & Political Violence
Some destinations may involve active or dormant conflict, insurgency, drone strikes, shelling, terrorism, kidnappings, and sudden security deterioration.
Crime & Personal Safety
Violent crime, robbery, extortion, carjacking, assault, and opportunistic targeting of foreigners may occur.
Detention & Legal Exposure
Travelers may be questioned, detained, denied entry, deported, or sanctioned under laws and enforcement standards very different from those of their home country.
Checkpoints & Movement Restrictions
Roadblocks, checkpoints, convoy rules, curfews, border closures, and sudden route restrictions may delay or prevent travel without notice.
Medical Limitations
Hospitals, trauma care, pharmacies, and ambulance services may be unavailable, inadequate, delayed, or far below international expectations.
Evacuation Challenges
Medical evacuation, extraction, or repatriation may be unsafe, unavailable, refused, materially delayed, or impossible.
Communications Blackouts
Internet shutdowns, mobile network outages, and power failures may prevent contact with family, insurers, embassies, or RJ Travel.
Device Search & Seizure
Phones, laptops, cameras, messages, and digital content may be inspected, copied, seized, or deleted by local authorities or other actors.
Transportation & Infrastructure Risk
Roads, vehicles, aviation services, buildings, utilities, and local systems may be unreliable or below typical international safety standards.
Natural & Environmental Hazards
Earthquakes, floods, heat, altitude, dehydration, food and water contamination, and environmental exposure may affect your trip.
Political Instability
Sudden protests, riots, government changes, curfews, emergency laws, and security crackdowns may affect movement and services.
Psychological Distress
Exposure to conflict zones, humanitarian hardship, visible trauma, detention risk, or prolonged uncertainty may cause emotional stress.
Government Travel Advisories
Check Your Government’s Advice
RJ Travel strongly encourages every traveler to review their government’s travel advisory before booking and again before departure. Some destinations may remain subject to “Do Not Travel,” “Reconsider Travel,” or similar warnings throughout the trip.

All other travelers should consult the equivalent foreign affairs or travel advisory authority in their own country.
Your Responsibilities
- Travel Documents: You are responsible for holding a valid passport, visas, permits, and any other required documentation.
- Staying Informed: You should monitor official travel advisories, airline updates, current events, and messages from RJ Travel before and during travel.
- Medical Disclosure: You must disclose relevant medical conditions, allergies, medications, dietary restrictions, and physical or mental limitations in writing before departure.
- Insurance: You must maintain valid and appropriate travel insurance suitable for your destination and activities.
- Compliance with Instructions: You must follow all safety, route, convoy, photography, accommodation, clothing, meeting-point, device-security, and emergency instructions issued by RJ Travel or its tour leaders.
- Local Law and Conduct: You must comply with all applicable laws, customs, and security restrictions of the destination country and any transit country.
Mandatory Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all RJ Travel clients unless expressly waived by RJ Travel in writing.
Your policy should, at a minimum and to the extent commercially available, cover:
- Emergency medical treatment
- Hospitalization
- Emergency evacuation and repatriation
- Trip cancellation and interruption
- Baggage and personal belongings
- High-risk or advisory-affected destinations and activities, where available
- 24/7 emergency assistance
It is your responsibility to confirm whether your insurer covers the destination, the activities in your itinerary, and any relevant war, terrorism, advisory-zone, or evacuation risks.
We recommend reviewing insurance options carefully before confirming your booking.
Limitation of Responsibility
RJ Travel cannot eliminate the inherent risks of frontier and politically complex travel. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, RJ Travel is not responsible for loss, injury, illness, delay, detention, confiscation, disruption, or damage arising from:
- inherent travel risks;
- acts or omissions of independent third-party suppliers;
- acts of governments, authorities, border officials, armed groups, militias, or de facto authorities; or
- events outside RJ Travel’s reasonable control.
Nothing on this page excludes or limits liability for RJ Travel’s fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
