7-DAY IRAQ ITINERARY

“Day 1” marks the start of a journey in Baghdad, the capital city of Iraq. As soon as you land at Baghdad International Airport, you’ll be greeted by a representative there to welcome and assist you. This is the meet & greet service. After the initial meet-up, you’ll be provided a private transfer. This means a vehicle will be arranged to take you from the airport to your hotel. This private transfer is designed to make your travel as smooth and relaxing as possible, allowing you to recover from your flight and prepare for your stay in Baghdad.

On “Day 2”, your exploration of Baghdad truly begins. You’ll be taken on a guided tour of the city in the morning. This will give you a comprehensive view of Baghdad’s cultural and historical landmarks and a taste of its vibrant local life.

Next, you’ll visit the Ancient City of Babylon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Babylon was a key kingdom in ancient Mesopotamia from the 18th to the 6th century BC. Today, you can explore its impressive ruins, including the famous Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Lastly, you’ll journey to Karbala, a city of immense religious significance in Islam, particularly for Shia Muslims. It’s the site of the Imam Husayn Shrine, which commemorates the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. This city tour will offer a rich blend of history, culture, and religion, further deepening your understanding and appreciation of Iraq.

“Day 3” continues your journey through Iraq, providing an even deeper look into the country’s cultural and religious history.

The day starts in Karbala, where you can explore the city’s significant religious sites or soak up the local culture.

You’ll then travel from Karbala to Al Kifl to visit the Tomb of Ezekiel. Ezekiel was a prophet in the Hebrew Bible and the Quran, and his tomb is a pilgrimage site for Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike.

The day concludes with a visit to Najaf, one of the holiest cities in Shia Islam, located about 160 km south of Baghdad. It is home to the Imam Ali Shrine, dedicated to Ali ibn Abi Talib, the cousin of Prophet Muhammad and the first Imam of Shia Islam. Najaf is also known for its ancient cemetery, Wadi-us-Salaam, which is said to be the largest in the world.

This day is filled with visits to important religious and historical sites, providing a unique perspective on Iraq’s shared and diverse religious traditions.

On “Day 4”, your journey takes you further into the historical depths of Iraq. You’ll begin the day in Najaf with the opportunity for further exploration or to experience this holy city’s early morning atmosphere.

From Najaf, you’ll travel to the site of the Great Ziggurat of Ur. The Ziggurat, a massive step pyramid, is one of the most well-preserved monuments from the time of the Sumerians, considered one of the earliest civilizations in the world. The structure was initially built in the Early Bronze Age but was restored by the Neo-Sumerian king, Ur-Nammu, in the 21st century BC.

Finally, you’ll head to the city of Nasiriyah, located along the banks of the Euphrates River. Nasiriyah is known for its rich history and ancient ruins and is near several important historical sites, including the ruins of the ancient city of Ur.

This day offers a blend of deeply significant historical exploration, providing an enriching experience of the ancient civilizations that once thrived in what is now modern-day Iraq.

“Day 5” explores Iraq’s natural and urban landscapes. You’ll start in Nasiriyah, with a potential visit to the local markets or further exploring the surrounding historical sites.

You’ll head to the Mesopotamian Marshes and the Tigris-Euphrates marshlands from there. This unique wetland ecosystem is often called the “Cradle of Civilization” and is home to the Marsh Arabs, who have maintained a unique way of life in harmony with the marshes for thousands of years. The area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016 due to its cultural and environmental significance.

Next, you’ll travel to Al-Multaqa, which lies at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. It is known for its natural beauty and as a traditional meeting point.

The day ends in the port city of Basra, located on the Shatt al-Arab between Kuwait and Iran. Basra is the economic hub of Iraq, renowned for its pivotal role in the oil industry and its vibrant culture. This blend of nature, culture, and urban exploration on “Day 5” offers a holistic view of Iraq, from its natural wonders to its bustling cities.

On “Day 6”, you will start your day in Basra. This will be your opportunity to explore this bustling port city further. You may want to visit the Shatt Al Arab River, the Basra Market for some local shopping, or the Basra Museum, which houses artifacts from the Hellenistic to the Islamic period.

In the latter part of the day, you will travel back to the capital city of Baghdad. The journey will provide a chance to relax and reflect on your experiences over the past few days, traveling through history and culture.

Once back in Baghdad, you can spend the evening enjoying the city’s nightlife, dining in local restaurants, or simply resting in your hotel in preparation for your departure the next day or further exploring the city, depending on your itinerary. This day combines urban exploration with some downtime, offering engaging experiences and relaxation.

“Day 7” marks the final day of your journey through Iraq. You’ll begin your morning in Baghdad, perhaps taking in one last view of the city or enjoying a final traditional Iraqi breakfast.

When departing, you’ll receive a private transfer to Baghdad International Airport. This service ensures a smooth and convenient end to your trip, allowing you to relax and reminisce week’s adventures as you prepare for your onward journey.

This day offers a clear and well-organized conclusion to your comprehensive exploration of Iraq, allowing you to reflect on the rich tapestry of history, culture, religion, and natural beauty you’ve experienced.
