The mirror of the sky — where the world’s largest salt flat reflects the heavens, where ancient civilizations thrived at 4,000 metres, and where the Andes reveal their wildest, most untamed face.

Bolivia Tours

Bolivia is South America’s most unfiltered country — raw, extreme, and magnificent in ways that no photograph can capture. The Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, stretches for 10,000 square kilometres of blinding white crust that, after rain, becomes a perfect mirror reflecting sky, clouds, and the human figure in a surreal infinity. La Paz — the highest administrative capital on earth — tumbles down a canyon at 3,640 metres, its cable car system offering aerial views of a city that defies gravity. The ruins of Tiwanaku, older than the Inca Empire, stand at the edge of Lake Titicaca — the highest navigable lake in the world. And in the east, the Yungas Road plunges from Andean pass to Amazonian jungle in a descent so vertiginous it earned the name “Death Road” and became one of the world’s great cycling adventures.

RJ Travel operates group tours and private tours across Bolivia, from the Salar de Uyuni and the coloured lagoons of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve to La Paz’s witches’ market, the silver mining city of Potosí, the colonial elegance of Sucre, and the Amazonian wetlands of the Pampas. Our itineraries combine high-altitude adventures with deep cultural immersions into Aymara and Quechua communities.

Whether you’re drawn by the infinite mirror of the salt flat at sunrise, the eerie beauty of flamingo-filled red lagoons at 4,300 metres, or the chance to descend into the silver mines of Cerro Rico where miners still work by candlelight and offer coca leaves to the devil, our Bolivia tours are for travellers who want South America before it gets polished.

  • Salar de Uyuni & Altiplano Lagoons: The Salar de Uyuni is the most photographed landscape in South America — and still manages to exceed every expectation. Drive across the endless white crust to Incahuasi Island, a rocky outcrop covered in giant cacti in the middle of the salt ocean. After rain, the thin layer of water transforms the flat into a mirror so perfect that horizon disappears and you walk through sky. Continue south through the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve past Laguna Colorada (blood-red with algae and flamingos), Laguna Verde (turquoise beneath a volcanic cone), geysers boiling at 4,800 metres, and rock formations sculpted by centuries of wind. This is the altiplano at its most otherworldly.
  • La Paz, Tiwanaku & Lake Titicaca: La Paz is a city that defies convention — built in a canyon, reached by cable car, and surrounded by snow-capped peaks including Illimani and Huayna Potosí. Explore the witches’ market where dried llama foetuses hang beside potions and amulets. Ride the teleférico for aerial views that span from wealthy southern suburbs to the sprawling market city of El Alto at 4,100 metres. Visit Tiwanaku, the ceremonial centre of a civilization that predated the Inca by a millennium — its Sun Gate and semi-subterranean temple reveal an engineering sophistication that still puzzles archaeologists. Then sail onto Lake Titicaca, where the Isla del Sol holds Inca creation myths and reed boats still ply the waters.
  • Potosí, Sucre & Colonial Heritage: Potosí was once the richest city in the world — its Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) produced so much silver that it funded the Spanish Empire for centuries. Today you can descend into the still-active mines, meet the miners, and see the shrines to El Tío — the devil figure who rules the underground. The city’s colonial architecture, with its ornate Casa de la Moneda (Royal Mint), tells the story of wealth built on suffering. Sucre, Bolivia’s constitutional capital, is the country’s most elegant city — whitewashed colonial buildings, chocolate shops, and the finest museum of indigenous textiles in South America. Together, these two cities contain Bolivia’s most complex history.
  • Yungas Road & Amazon Pampas: The North Yungas Road — the “Death Road” — drops 3,600 metres in 64 kilometres from La Cumbre pass to the subtropical town of Coroico, following a gravel track carved into sheer cliff faces with no guardrails and 600-metre drops. Cycling it is one of South America’s most exhilarating adventures. At the bottom, the landscape transforms from ice to jungle — and further north, the Pampas of the Amazon basin offer boat expeditions through flooded forests where pink river dolphins, caimans, anacondas, and capybaras share the waterways. Bolivia’s ecological range — from glacier to jungle — is astonishing.
