6-day Turkmenistan itinerary
Upon arrival at the Ashgabat International airport, you will be greeted by our representatives and transferred to your hotel for some free time to relax. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before embarking on a morning excursion to visit the ancient fortress of Nissa. This fortress, considered the Sanctuary of Parthian Kings, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. Founded by Arsaces I around 250 BC, Nissa is reputed to be the royal necropolis of the Parthian Kings. Afternoon city tour of Ashgabat, known as the “white marbled city” and home to the largest number of white marble structures in the world. You will visit the Presidential Palace, Ruhyyet Palace, Wedding Palace, modern “Yildyz” Hotel, Ferris Wheel, Constitution Monument, Arch of Neutrality, Monument and park of Independence, Ertogrul Gazy Mosque, Ashgabat Sports and Housing facilities, and the Earthquake and victims of WWII Monuments. Overnight in Ashgabat.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to the domestic airport of Ashgabat for a flight to Mary. Upon arrival in Mary, you will drive to explore ancient Merv, also known as the “Queen of the world”. One of the most important capitals of Islam along with Baghdad, Cairo and Damascus, ancient Merv was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The sightseeing of ancient Merv includes Greater Kyz Gala & Lesser Kyz Gala (VI-VII), Complex of Askhabs (VIII-XIV), Erk Gala (VI BC), Gyaur Gala (IV BC), Hoja Yusup Hamadani complex, Sultan Sanjar mausoleum, and Muhamed Ibn Zeid mausoleum. After sightseeing, you will drive to Mary city for overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Gonurdepe. Gonurdepe was the capital of the Margush (Margiana) country, which occupied an area of more than 3000 sq. km and consisted of 78 oases and more than 150 compact settlements. The American newspaper “Boston Globe” wrote that, before the fantastic results of the Margiana expedition, there were only four oldest centers of the world’s civilization: Egypt, India, China and Mesopotamia, and now it is quite possible to think that there was another, the fifth center. You will have a lunch box in Gonurdepe before driving back to Mary for overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to the domestic airport of Mary for a flight back to Ashgabat. Upon arrival in Ashgabat, we will drive to Gokdepe fortress, which was attacked in December 1880 by the Russian Empire Army. The siege of Gokdepe lasted 23 days, after which the city was taken by storm. During our visit, we will see the Geokdepe Mosque (Saparmyrat Hajy), built in 1995 to commemorate the defeat and noted for its mint-turquoise blue colored roof and white marble structure. We will also visit the Gokdepe museum about the battle between Russians and the local tribe “Akhalteke” in 1881 before heading to the Horse Farm to see the national pride of the Turkmen people – Akhalteke horses, the nicest horses in the world. We will then drive to visit the Turkmenbashy Ruhy Mosque in Kipchak, the largest mosque in Central Asia, before returning to Ashgabat for an overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to the domestic airport of Ashgabat for a flight to Dashgouz. Upon arrival in Dashoguz, we will drive to Kunya Urgench for a sightseeing tour. We will visit the Portal of Caravansaray, Mamun Minaret, II Arslan Mausoleum, Sultan Tekesh Mausoleum, Academy of Horezm, Kutlug Timur Minaret, and Turabek Hanum Mausoleum before returning to the domestic airport of Dashoguz for a flight back to Ashgabat. We will spend our last night in Ashgabat.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to Ashgabat International airport for departure.
